Pirate Edwin for MDUC #70

Good morning! It is spring here in Australia at the moment so we have spent most of yesterday in the garden. Between my wonderful DH and I, we planted 11 birch trees, an apple tree and 25 plants and mowed the lawn. Such a big job keeping a garden but it is going to be worth it when everything starts to grow.

But enough about the garden! You are here to see my card for Magnolia Down Under Challenges, this week the challenge is "Halloween inspired". So you have the choice of making something Halloween themed, or if you are Aussie (we still dont really celebrate Halloween) and don't have Halloween stamps, or if you are just a little Halloween'd out, like I am, you can make something inspired by Halloween.

I have made so many Halloween projects this year and have no use for them really, so I just couldn't bring myself to make another one...lol, even though this week's theme was my idea! So instead I got out my Pirate Edwin. I figured that Edwin was in dress ups as the pirate so Halloween inspired. The card is actually a birthday card for a little boy turning four next week - I hope he likes it!

I've also coloured his shirt in burnt oranges to give it a bit more of a Halloweeny look. It was fun doing a scene card again. I haven't done many recently. I have coloured this background so many times since I bought it. I love it!

I have also applied a fair amount of stickles on the sand and water to give it a little sparkle. And a little black bead for a pearl with the shell. The treasure map paper is actually a picture I found on the internet and printed onto cardstock.

So some challenges for this card are:
Just Magnolia #79 - Sketch by Dawny
7 Kids College Fund - Birthdays
Crafty Cardmakers - Use a freebie (treasure map)
Moving along with the Times - a card for a child
Papertake Weekly - Sparkly and bright
ABC Challenges - G is for Glitter
Totally Gorjuss - Sparkle
Totally Papercrafts - Bling it on

Ingredients for this card are:
Stamps: Magnolia - Pirate Edwin, Barrel Skull & Anchor (Fairytale 2010 Collection), Ocean background (Lazy Summer Days 2009), Palm tree (Party and Vacation 2008),
Papers: Cosmo Cricket "Wanted", Treasure map downloaded from the net
Embellishments: Raffia, Black mini brads, Shell, pearl bead, Stickles Diamond, Glossy Accents
Other: Sewing machine, distressing tool

**I am excited to add that this card came in the TOP 3 at 7 Kids College Fund Challenges - my prize is aa GDT posi!! Woohoo! Thanks Ladies :) **

Whiff of Joy DT - November Release Preview - "Winter Church"

I'm back again! So if you saw my previous post this morning, you would have seen a coloured image of a little church. That lovely image has made it to a card for me to show you.

This is the first card of four previews I have to show you for the Whiff of Joy November releases. And wow oh wow - they are gorgeous stamps! But not only are there four gorgeous stamps to share with you over the next few days, there are also four beautiful metal dies as well!

So for my first card, I have used the "Winter Church" stamp and "Romantic Swirls" metal die. It is a nice change to colour a building instead of a cute little character. I really quite enjoyed it. The stamps and dies will be available as of 1 November.

I have also used the fantastic Whiff of Joy sentiment set "Seasons Greetings" and "Fancy Shape" die. I am just a bit addicted to these two. They are so versatile.

So some challenges for this card are:
Stamp With Fun #82 - great sketch
A Spoon full of Sugar - Lets get Punchy
Fussy and Fancy - Winter Wonderland
Simon Says Challenge - Punch Em
Stampavie and More - Christmas
Creative Card Crew - Lets Punch It
Papertake Weekly - Sparkly and Bright
ABC Challenges - G is for Glitter
Totally Gorjuss - Sparkle

Ingredients for this card are:

Stamps: Whiff of Joy - Winter Church and Seasons Greetings
Papers: Websters Pages
Embellishments: Pearl pin and Flowers (Wild Orchid Crafts), Paper doily (Tickled Pink Stamps), maroon stain ribbon, Diamond Stickles
Other: Whiff of Joy dies - "Romantic Swirls" and "Fancy Shape", Magnolia Doo Hickeys "Tilda's Lace" (Tickled Pink Stamps), Sewing machine, Cuttlebug

Copic mini tutorial - Creating an "aura" around your image

I have had some questions lately asking me how I create the aura around my images so I thought I would write up a mini tutorial.

Firstly, colour your image and correct any areas where you have gone outside the lines with your blender 0. Allow the blender to dry thoroughly.

I keep two blender markers - a nice juicy one for correcting mistakes and for blender techniques, and a second dryish blender for softening areas of colour. I find if I use a juicy blender for this I end up with rings on my colouring where the blender has left a puddle on my image. So for colouring an "aura" I usually take my BG10 marker and my BG0000 marker, in addition to my dryish 0 blender.

Taking your BG10, carefully outline your image trying not to touch the coloured image as you don't want ink running into your aura. (Tip- If this does happen, allow the area to dry and then use your BG10 to "push" the darker ink to the back of the image as lighter colours push darker colours away).

Then using your BG0000 and the side of your marker tip, flick outwards from the outline approx 1 - 1.2cm (or 1/2 inch). Don't worry too much if you can see the flick lines. We will fix this up. Go around the entire image doing this. If you find the BG10 line has dried a little and isn't blending with the BG 0000, go around a second time but only flicking 5mm (or 1/4 inch).

Using your dryish blender 0 marker, blend the outside of the flicks so they disappear and you are left with a gradual fade. A close up view:

A little bit furhter away:

Lastly, here is another example using G0000 to outline and flick (the image is a new Whiff of Joy release for November... I'll be posting the finished card later today - I hope, lol).

This also looks really nice with the V and R groups. I hope you find this useful! I would love to see your finished works using this tutorial, so please let me know how you go!
The gorgeous Dena has done a fantastic job on her card HERE with pink if you want to check out her beautiful card.

Tilda under the tree and on the tree!

Hi! Thanks for visiting me today! I have been playing with my Magnolia Fall Club stamps again. So cute! As soon as I was the mini Tilda's I had this idea of having a little angel sitting on a Christmas tree. So this is what I came up with.

The Christmas tree is simply a triangle piece of cardstock that I have cut out strips of patterned paper and punched and inked the edges, then attached them in a bit of an alternating pattern. Its a little hard to see in the photo, but I then applied a fair amount of Glimmer mist and some liquid pearls to the tree. The little hearts are punched and layered, then some glossy accents applied. If you like them, there is a great tutorial HERE (except I didn't make mine to buttons, just embellies).

The layout is fairly simple. I used a sketch from Papercraft Planet, its the first time that I've played in one of the challenges over there so I hope I upload the photos correctly, lol. I thought this idea needed a nice easy layout as there is so much detail in the tree and the papers are gorgeous Websters minis so they need to be allowed to show a bit :)

Ingredients for this card are:

Copic colours: E 0000, 00, 11, 13, 29, 41, 43, 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, W0, 1, R 000, 00, 20, 335, 37, 39, BG 72, 75, 78, Y 21, 26, 28
Stamps: Magnolia, SU! Tiny Tags
Papers: Websters Minis "Home for the Holidays"
Embellishments: Cream cotton lace, teal ribbon, Glimmer Mist "Iridescent Gold", Liquid Pearls, Bell, Flourish with a Bling (Tickled Pink Stamps), Maroon Satin 1" ribbon, Flowers (Wild Orchid Crafts), Glossy Accents, Stickles Diamond
Other: Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 17, Tiny Tag punch, Fiskers Heart Punch, SU! Scallop edge punch, Sewing machine, Cuttlebug, paper piercer

Tickled Pink Stamps release - Birthday Kellita

Hello! And welcome to the first day of the last Tickled Pink Stamps birthday releases.

Today I have Birthday Kellita here to share with you. Isn't she gorgeous? I decided to make a criss cross card with her for my preview and cut into some beautiful Prima "Flights of Fancy" paper that I have been hording. It hurt, but it was well worth it!

I have also used the Tickled Pink Stamps Birthday set for the card insert.

My card serves a dual purpose - it is also my DT card for Lil Lolita Boutique Challenges, the theme this week being "Birthday".

The DT has done some amazing work with Kellita for this preview so be sure to check out the Tickled Pink Stamps blog! And while you are there... there is a prize up for grabs!

Kellita will be available for purchase on Saturday so keep your eyes peeled!

I'm going to enter this card into these challenges:

Whiff of Joy DT - October store kit: Let Us Adore Him

Ohhhh - look what arrived in my mail box yesterday!! My Whiff of Joy October Store Kit - Let Us Adore Him. This fabulous Store kit comes already mounted and in a CD case - how fantastic is that? All you have to do is give it a quick trim and you're ready to stamp away!

I had an idea what to do with it straight away. Because it is a kit, the images work so well together and I wanted to create a sort of scene. The tabs on the tops of the gables are made using the Fancy Shape die which I have scored in half and folded. These Whiff of Joy dies are so versatile. The letters are cut using the Cuttlebug.

And here is a side view. I kept the card fairly flat and it measures just over 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide so it folds up nicely to go in a standard envelope.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:
Totally Gorjuss #53 - Sparkle
Top Tip Tuesday #7 - Anything Goes
Moving along with the Times #69 - Anything Goes
Crafty Creations Challenges #90 - Red, Green and Brown

Ingredients for this card are:

Stamps: Whiff of Joy October Store Kit - Let Us Adore Him, Magnolia "Silent Night" background stamp

Tilda wants a PINK hug

Ohhh.... is it Monday already? OMGosh. The weekend just flew by. But it was a productive weekend.

I found some time to play with my new Magnolia Christmas stamps and my new BG Eskimo Kisses paper pad. Such pretty colours for Christmas. When I saw the Just Magnolia challenge this week I really wanted to play along :)

The sketch is from this week's Friday Sketchers challenge. It was a fun one to work with too. I had a go at making a little loopy ribbon frame that I saw Claudia do a little while ago.

Normally I use Stickles for my glitter but I have had this loose glitter pot sitting on my craft desk for ages and I have been just a little too lazy to try it. I seem to get the stuff everywhere! So I thought this ultra fine glitter should get a little go for a Chrissy card :) And yes... it was a little messy - but totally worth it. Just a little difficult to photograph!

Challenges for this card are:

Friday Sketchers - fabby Sketch
Just Magnolia - Think PINK
Totally Tilda - Pink and Pearls
Totally Gorjuss - Sparkle!
The ABC Challenge - F is for Flowers

Ingredients for this card are:

Copic colours: E 0000, 000, 00, 11, 13, 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, R 000, 00, 20, 22, W 0, 1, G 94, 99
Stamps: "Tilda wants a Hug" - Magnolia: Merry Christmas 2010, sentiment "Vintage Post" Magnolia: So Jolly 2009
Papers: Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses (Tickled Pink Stamps)
Embellishments: Pink 10mm ribbon, Pearls "Flourish with a Bling" and lace (Tickled Pink Stamps), Flowers (Wild Orchid Crafts), Pearls stemens and silver stars (Spotlight), loose super fine glitter
Other: Cuttlebug Snowflakes embossing folder, Nestabilibites Large circles, sewing machine.

Autumn Charlotte gets distressed

I hope you are all having a happy Sunday!!

I thought I'd have a play with this gorgeous Whiff of Joy image "Autumn Charlotte" this weekend. The challenge this fortnight at Whiff of Joy Challenges is "Distressing" so I thought I would play along.

I used my scissors to distress the edges of my cardstock and DP. Normally I use my edge distresser but sometimes I think the scissors do a better job. I have then inked the edges of the image and die cuts with "Vintage Photo" and have used Distress Paint "Picket Fence" on the edges of the DP. And I used my Whiff of Joy Pennants die again, I love this die!

The sketch is from Sketch Saturday and that gorgeous DP is from the Sassafrass Lass "Mix and Mend" 6x6 pad (available at Tickled Pink Stamps).

The challenge at Stampin for the Weekend is Halloween/Fall and as I am a little bit Halloween'ed out this year I have gone for the Fall theme.

I went a bit overboard with the flowers but I really liked the rustic look of them with the leaves. ABC Challenge is looking for F for Flowers this week.

Ingredients for this card are:

Copic colours: E 0000, 000, 00, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 30, 31, 34, 37, 41, 43, 51, 53, 55, 57, Y 35, 38, B 000, 01, 04, YG 91, 95,
Stamps: "Autumn Charlotte" and "General Sayings" - Whiff of Joy
Papers: Sassafrass Lass "Mix and Mend" - Tickled Pink Stamps
Embellishments: Flowers - Wild Orchid Crafts, Pearls "Flourish with a Bling" - Tickled Pink Stamps, Ribbon from stash.
Other: Cuttlebug Die - Maple leaf combo, 2 step Leaf, SU Leaf die, Spellbinders Edgabilities Eyelet and Lables 17, EK Success Binder edge punch, Pennant Die - Whiff of Joy

Tilda with Apples - a fall birthday card :)

**Edited to add - this card came in the top 3 at PaperPlay Challenges! Thanks Ladies!!**

Happy weekend everyone!

Today I have a cute card to show you that I made for my MIL's birthday. I have so many cards laying around my house, I really could have given her one of those, but well, I just can't help myself. Any excuse to make a new one really.

When I started the card, I had all intentions of entering it into the All That Scraps Third Magnolia challenge... which is Fall with a Fold... but as the idea developed, it became less of a "fall" card and more of a birthday card, so Pam, I'm sorry! I think my papers and the first image are still very fall themed, but the rest of the card... I'll leave that up to you to decide :) Maybe my raffia tie and Kraft cardstock gets me over that rustic hurdle?

I've made an "accordian card" so when the raffia is untied, it opens out to reveal more images. There is a great tutorial HERE if you want to give it a go yourself.

So my card tells a little story... Tilda went and picked her apples... then she did some baking but made a big mess... and the end result is a yummy apple cake and a nice cuppa. I know the images are out of order, lol, but they worked better on the card that way.
Magnolia-licious Highlites is also having a fun blog hop called "Whats cookin". The DT have created some fun projects and now the rest of us can play along and make a project with a recipe or food element... so this is my entry over there too!
Paperplay Challenges this week has a colour combo of Blue, Orange and Olive green so I think my card fits in over there too.

Ingredients for this card are:

Copic colours: E0000, 000, 00, 11, 13, 30, 31, 34, 37, 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, BG 0000, YR 000, 15, 18, 20, 23, G 0000, 000, 20, YG 23, 25, W 0, 1, R 00, 20
Stamps: all Magnolia: Tilda with Apples and Happy Birthday sentiment (Cosy Autumn 2010), Tea cup, Cake and Oops Tilda (Yummy in my Tummy 2009)
Papers: Kaisercraft Devonshire
Embellishments: Cotton lace, raffia, green ribbon from my stash, Paper doily (Tickled Pink Stamps), blue flowers are Kaisercraft, Roses and asters are Wild Orchid Crafts. Apple charm is Whiff of Joy. Provocraft eyelets.
Other: Nestabilities Large Deckled Rectangles, sweing machine, Concentric hearts die.

Whiff of Joy - Christmas Train

Oh wow - how cute is this stamp? It is called Christmas train and is a Whiff of Joy release from September and if you like it you can find it here. As soon as I saw my friend and DT sister Jane use the image I had to have it too, lol. I've teamed the cute image with one of the fantastic sentiments from the Season's Greetings set.

Those glittery gold stars are something I've had in my stash since.... well forever! They are actually just plain wood and I've covered them in stickles. So sparkly! The sketch is one of Chelsea's fantastic sketches from CLP Challenges. She has the most wonderful sketches.

Cupcake Crafts challenge this week is Boys and their toys and I thought this fit perfectly! My little boys loooove trains at the moment. I've been thinking about getting them a train set for Christmas. I can hear the squeals now!

Cherry Tilda for MDUC #68

Good morning! It is time for another fabulous MDUC challenge. This week we have a great sketch by the gorgeous Debbie P for you to play with, so make sure you head over to Magnolia Down Under Challenges to check out the sketch and the fantastic work by the rest of the DT.

I decided to ink up my cute Tilda with Cherries from the Cosy Autumn collection and I turned the sketch 90 degrees as well to suit my taller than average image. I also broke out my new Doo Hickey dies, Berry Lace and Lovely Fence for the card. I cut the cherries out using a Cuttlebug die and then added a few layers of glossy acents to make them shine, followed by a couple of dots of stickles... which I wish I hadn't! They look a little....odd? The cherry blossoms also have stickles added to the stamens and the cherries in Tilda's basket are also covered in stickles. I added Copic Spica at You pen in Clear to Tilda's gorgeous cherry red Mary Janes, heheh, I want a pair!

Lil Lolita Boutique Challenge #19 SKULLS

OMG - how cute is this Witch Lylah? She is one of the Lil Lolita "Lil Haunts" recently released at Tickled Pink Stamps. I wanted to use her for this week's Lil Lolita Boutique challenge... but the challenge this week is SKULLS... and guess what? Not a single skull to be seen! Only a cute little pumpkin in her hand. Oh no! What to do.....

So Witch Lylah cast a little spell and POOF!! Her pumpkin was no longer! She now has a cute little cupcake decorated with a tiny skull in her hand instead. The cupcake is from the "Tickled Pink Birthday set". Ahh... the joy of digital images. Oh - there is one more detail that I wanted to draw your attention to - the little spider... notice the red spot on his back.... yup, he is a little Red Back Spider, native to Australia and highly poisonous. Just a little Aussie touch :)

Instead of making a card this week, I made a little treat cover instead. It feels so strange to be doing so many Halloween related projects this year. Halloween is still not really celebrated in Australia, although last year we did get some little witches knocking on our door unexpectedly. It has been really fun searching the net to get ideas of what is normally done in the Halloween celebrating countries.

There is also a new release being shown at the Tickled Pink Stamps blog NOW so please head over there to see something very cute!!

Challenges for this card are:
Crafts and Me - Halloween
Cupcake Crafts - Scary Creatures (ok, so I don't think Lylah is all that scary, hehe she actually reminds me of Samantha from Bewitched! But that little red back spider... eeek!)
Double Dutch - Boo to You
Dutch Dare - Tagalicious (I used two tags on the top of the treat cover)
Everybody Art - Halloween
Fussy and Fancy - Halloween
Copic Oz - All Together Spooky

Ingredients for this card are:

Copic colours: V 000, 12, 15, 17, N 3, 5, 7, 9, E 000, 00, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, YG 63, 67, YR 000, 0
Stamps: Witch Lylah, Tickled Pink Birthday Set - Tickled Pink Stamps
Papers: Little Yellow Bicycle Zinnia Orange Dots
Embellishments: Black ribbon, Black rose trim and Skull charm (Tickled Pink Stamps)
Other: Whiff of Joy Tag

Circus Tilda

**How exciting! This card came in the Top 4 at Sketchy Colours! Thanks so much!**

Good afternoon! I had a bit of a play on the weekend with these two cuties from Magnolia's Cosy Autum collection. I figured they'd better get some ink before the next collection is released, lol. And to tell you the truth, I haven't seen them used very much yet around in blog land!

I masked Circus Tilda and her horse together and chose my papers, then had no idea where to go from there, so I browsed for a sketch and just sort of played a little bit. I really liked these two stamps when I first saw them up for pre-order and I don't know why I didnt get them out to play sooner, I was really pleased how well they coloured up. Very cute.

I added the gold and cream cord so the horse and Tilda looked like they were on a roundabout. There is a Heritage Merry-Go-Round in Canberra's city and my boys love going on that for a special treat. Loads of fun.

Some challenges are:
Just Magnolia #76 - Two by Two (two images, two DP, two nesties, two clusters of flowers, two doo hickeys, two sets of swirls, two corners, two ribbons, I could probably go on but that will do, lol)
A Spoon full of Sugar #124- Sparkle and Shine
Basic Grey - Sparkle
Get Sketchy #59 - Sketch
Magnolia Stamp Lovers - Sparkling
Sketchy Colours #42 - Pink, Turquoise and Grey
Stamp Something - Something Punchy
