Joy Fold Card - a tutorial by me!

Edited 9/3/10: - The template is now updated to get rid of my messy handwritting and also has imperial measurements for those of you in the US or using older cutting tools. Enjoy!

I thought that I would post some instructions on here so if anyone wants to make a Joy fold card but doesn't really want to think too much about it (like I often prefer!), then they can.

Let me say first of all, I did not invent Joy Fold cards. There are many fab tutorials out there showing you how to make one - that is afterall how I discovered them. My tutorial is simply how I do it and using my measurements - which are METRIC not imperial which almost every tutorial I have ever come across uses. I also have customised my card to use a piece of A4 cardstock.

Using your A4 piece of cardstock, cut along the long side at 14cm. This will give you a piece of cardstock that measures 21cm wide and 14cm long. Score this cardstock at 14 cm so you have a square measuring14cm x 14cm and a rectangle end measuring 14cm x 7cm. I usually put the little flappy bit to the right, but you can put it on the left, top or bottom if you wish.

On the remaining piece of cardstock, cut a 10 cm piece. So you have a 10cm long x 21 cm long piece. Cut 1cm off the end so the card now measures 10cm x 20cm. Score this piece at 10cm (in half) so you have two square bits. Easy huh? If you want to, you can leave this little 1cm piece on and use a border punch.

This is what you will have.....the usuable bits anyway. The little bit of left over cardstock can be used later on for matting if you wish.

Then decorate as you please! After decorating, attach the smaller piece straight like this...

Or diagonally like this....

And finish it off as you wish! Just make sure that before you assembe anything permanently that you have anything such as ribbons to tie bits together attached or you might end up pulling bits off here and there, just something I learnt from experience... hehehehe.

If anyone makes one of these please let me know, I'd love to see how your cards turn out - and also if my instructions make any sense!
